5 Early Signs of Pregnancy

While you haven’t brough home pregnancy test yet, you might be wondering if you are pregnant. Early signs of pregnancy may vary from women to women. Below are the most common pregnancy symptoms:

      1. Missed Periods

Missed period is first sign of pregnancy if you have regular periods. Though, missed period may not always mean that you are pregnant. There can be other reasons for delay in periods too such as – stress, hormonal imbalance, medication.

If your periods are not missed due to pregnancy, it’s a good idea to see gynecologist.

      2. Implantation Bleeding

You may notice slight bleeding or spotting for 1-2 days that is lighter in color then normal menstrual blood. This is known as implantation bleeding, and it happens when fertilized egg implants in the lining of your womb.

It occurs around the time of your expected period, or a few days earlier.

It is one of the early signs of pregnancy & can be mistaken easily for light period. But as bleeding/spotting lasts for a short duration – from couple of hours to 1-2 days, you can identify it as implantation bleeding.

If you suspect implantation bleeding, you can take a home pregnancy test a few days after the bleeding occurs to confirm pregnancy. The test should be able to detect the presence of the pregnancy hormone, human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), in your urine.

      3. Fatigue or Tiredness

Most women feel tired during first few weeks of pregnancy due to rising level of progesterone in your body.

In such scenarios, I would advise you to listen to your body – take plenty of rest, eat good balanced diet, drink lot of water. Engage in light exercise to boost your energy level. Get help from loved ones.

      4. Morning Sickness

Morning sickness is one of the most common indications of pregnancy. Though it may happen at any point in the day. Morning sickness often involves nausea and vomiting.

Certain foods, smell might aggravate this condition. If you experience sever vomiting & are unable to keep any fluids down, please contact your doctor ASAP.

      5. Frequent Urination

You may feel a frequent urge to urinate.

I had mistaken this sign of pregnancy for a urine infection & had gone to visit the Urologist. Also made a blunder by forgetting to tell him that I am planning for baby.

If you visit any kind of doctor & if you are trying for a baby, just let the doctor know.

Also, as soon as you suspect that you are pregnant, you can test on a home pregnancy test & schedule a visit to your health care provider.
